Apple is set to bring its entire iPad lineup to OLED displays. According to the recent leak via Omdia the iPad mini is expected to adopt OLED screens in 2026 while the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air models will get the OLED screens by 2027
Unlike the iPad Pro, which features advanced “double-layer tandem OLED”, the iPad mini and iPad Air will feature single layer OLED screens with a 60hz refresh rate. This difference shows Apple’s strategy to balance both performance and cost across its product range
The report also reported that Apple plans to introduce 120hz double-layer tandem OLED in its MacBooks by 2026, starting with MacBook Pro. The MacBook Air will have OLED displays in 2028, while the Air models will still use single layer design to keep difference between Air and Pro models
Why OLED?
As OLED displays offer advantages over traditional LCD screens due to their self-luminous nature and each pixel emits light independently, enabling precise control for vibrant colors and more responsiveness. These displays do not rely on backlight and polarizer like LCD which produce slower image renders. OLED screens bypass this limitation by changing pixel colors directly through voltage control for fast image rendering and minimum delays
This shift shows Apple’s continuous push for superior display performance and an enhanced user experience
