Reports from a South Korean website (Alpha Economy) indicate that Apple is targeting a September 2026 release date for its inaugural foldable iPhone, aligning closely with the unveiling of the Apple iPhone 18 series. This strategic timing positions Apple to capitalize on consumer interest in mobile technology. Additionally, it coincides with Samsung’s anticipated launch of its next series of foldable devices, including the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Z Fold 8.
Apple’s ambitious goal of selling 50 million units reflects its confidence in the demand for foldable smartphones. To put this into perspective, the total sales of foldable units in 2022 amounted to 14.2 million units, according to Canalys. Despite projections indicating a slight decline in the market in 2027, Apple’s target far surpasses current industry figures, signaling its intent to dominate this emerging sector.
