HMD Global is set to reveal their HMD Fusion, a modular smartphone, at IFA 2024 in Berlin on September 5. This Fusion model aims to revive the concept of modular phones, featuring a base unit that can connect to various “smart clothes,” expanding its functionality.
Jean-Francois Baril, Co-Founder and CEO of HMD Global, said, “We are not only design disruptors but also innovators of a new era of better-designed technology. From the ‘Better Phone’ project to fun phones and repairables, stay tuned for more to come.”
The device is expected to include a 6.6-inch 1080p IPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G variant, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. It also boasts a 108MP main camera, a 4,800mAh battery with 30W fast charging, and pogo pins for magnetic accessories. While the concept isn’t new, HMD hopes to succeed where previous attempts, like Motorola’s Moto Mods, have failed. The Fusion’s success will depend on its design, developer support, and practical applications of its modular components.
